MyUnity - Unity Desktop Customizer

Salah satu alasan dulu saya kurang begitu suka dengan Unity Desktop di ubuntu adalah susahnya customisasi desktop tersebut. Padahal customisasi adalah jadi opsi menarik dalam menggunakan linux.

Ternyata ada juga satu aplikasi yang memudahkan kita untuk mengcustomisasi tampilan Unity Desktop di ubuntu. Kita bisa menggunakan My Unity, sebuah tool yang memungkinkan kita untuk melakukan tweaking dan customisasi Unity Desktop sesuai selera kita dengan cara yang mudah. Wow..

Install

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:myunity/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install myunity

Setelah selesai instalasi, jalankan dengan mengetikkan myunity pada Dash Ubuntu kita

Intel Has 50 Patches For ACPI/Power In Linux 3.3

The fun for the Linux 3.3 kernel merge window is not over quite yet; Intel this morning published 50 patches for integration into this next Linux kernel that affect ACPI and power management, primarily around ACPI 5.0 support for the Linux kernel.

The 50 patches for the 3.3 pull were submitted by Len Brown, the Intel OSTC developer who is also the ACPI sub-system maintainer for the Linux kernel. These new patches were largely authored by him and other Intel engineers, among others.

Among the notable changes in the ACPI pull is much work on ACPI 5.0, Turbostat support for Intel Ivy Bridge, a more robust Intel idle driver (especially for systems dealing with KVM virtualization), ACPICA (ACPI Component Architecture) updates, and APEI (ACPI Platform Error Interface) updates. From patch 20 for ACPICA, "this version contains full support for the ACPI 5.0 specification." There's also a fix that will allow some new motherboards (select P67/H67/Z68 motherboards) that can suspend but are not able to wake-up on Linux 3.2 and earlier, to now wake-up properly.

ACPI 5.0 support improvements under Linux 3.3 include supporting FADT version 5, implementing the hardware-reduced option, a new interface for drivers to access AML mutex objects, support for all new resource descriptors, and other new functionality of the ACPI 5.0 specification. The ACPI 5.0 specification was published in November of 2011. Per the change-log spec on ACPI 5.0, reduced hardware support is described as "allows for ACPI systems without the usual ACPI hardware. This support is enabled by a flag in the revision 5 FADT. If it is set, ACPICA will not attempt to initialize or use any of the usual ACPI hardware." New tables define by ACPI 5.0 include the boot graphics resource, dynamic root of trust for measurement, firmware performance data, generic timer description, memory power state, platform communications channel, platform memory topology, and RAS feature table. There also other ACPI 5.0 changes as mentioned in the aforelinked spec. The Advanced Configuration and Power Interface 5.0 specification in full can be downloaded from acpi.info.

With the ACPI 5.0 specification being only a few months old, ACPI 5.0 hardware isn't yet widespread, but more hardware is certainly coming. With new products around the Intel Ivy Bridge launch will likely be an onslaught of motherboards targeting the ACPI 5.0 specification. With the Linux 3.3 kernel this support is obviously bettered, but now out of reach for the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and its Linux 3.2 kernel, unless the support is (unlikely) back-ported to the stable branch. This would mean there's now risk of power-related issues under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS for new hardware, beyond the graphics worries, but we'll wait and see how it plays out.

The ACPI / power management patch series for the Linux 3.3 kernel can be found on the kernel mailing list. Linux 3.3 is shaping up quite nicely with many new features (see the Linux 3.3 articles for details) and just a little bit of time left to the merge window.

Linux Marketshare is Rising

Linux usage is on the rise if the latest data from net-statistics firm ‘NetMarketShare’ is to be believed.

Data collected by the company sees the market share of Linux jump from 0.96% in January 2011 to 1.41% by the year’s end – impressive if indicative of wider trends.

‘The But’

Statistics from one company alone are rarely able to paint the fullest picture. What story do statistic collected by other market share monitors tell?

I took available month-by-month data from the most prominent companies (noted on the chart below) and plotted them on the same graph. As not all firms report data for all months there are gaps – so view the chart below with this in mind.

Slightly less clear-cut, huh?

The wild variation between companies depends on the data collection method used and type of audience. But, overall, most companies are reporting an ‘upwards’ movement in Linux market share, if to varying degrees.

What would really help give a better overview of any general trend in Linux usage is an average market share percentage. So I’ve done just that, taking the average reach for each month (based on stats from all the companies) and plotted it below.

The results show that there is a steady, but definite overall rise in the market share of Linux.

Is ‘Ubuntu Concept Design’ a Unity Phone?

The rumour mill is cranking into overdrive as to what form Canonical’s ‘Ubuntu Concept Design’ CES reveal will take.

But there may be a clue what it might be by looking at Canonical’s diary for the following month.

Unity Phone

Between 27 February – 1 March 2012 the company will be attending the GSMA World Mobile Congress, the ‘world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry (Thanks Wikipedia).

The congress plays home to both an exhibit and a conference consisting of some of the worlds leading players in mobile technologies. From the chief executives of device manufacturers to the app houses keeping mobile platforms useful – anyone with a vested interested in the mobile sector is there.

Canonical will be pitching up their exhibit in Hall 7 of the event building. Hall 7 plays home to the ‘App Planet’ exhibit which is described by the organisers as:

“A forward-looking app-focused exhibition showcasing the framework that shapes, enables and drives the app industry. Visit the Upper Village where we showcase more than 200 app-specific exhibitors…”

Hold your horses

Canonical have already stated plans for a multi-platform future for Ubuntu, so their attendance at MWC 2012 isn’t entirely shocking.

Whether or not it’s indicative of a shiny concept Unity phone being unveiled next week is nothing more than mere conjecture/supposition/reading into what’s probably not there on my part.

But the connection is something to mull over in the mean time.

Convert File .flv to .swf Dengan Text Command

Is there a linux tool for coverting FLV files to SWF?

Di linux kita bisa menggunakan mmc untuk mengkonversi berbagai macam format media berbasis grafis. Kali ini kita akan menggunakan text command yang gak kalah asik... aw :)

Pertama yang diperlukan adalah menginstall ffmpeg

# sudo apt-get install ffmpeg

tunggu sampai prosesnya selesai.

Setelah selesai installasi, kita bisa segera melakukan konversi :

Masuk ke direktori dimana file.flv yang akan kita convert ada. Gunakan perintah berikut untuk mengonversinya :

# ffmpeg -i inputname.flv outputname.swf

Tunggu prosesnya selesai, maka kita akan memiliki file .swf hasil konversi dari file .flv kita. uyee... gitu aja yah?

Chrome moves into second place in global browser usage

Based off a report from Ireland-based research firm StatCounter, the Google Chrome browser has moved into second place globally for the first time. While Microsoft’s Internet Explorer still remains at the top, Mozilla’s Firefox browser continued on a downward trend that started at the end of 2010. The research firm reported that Chrome took a 25.7 percent market share in November 2011 while Firefox fell to 25.23 percent. Just two years ago, the Google Chrome browser was barely over 4.5% and was tied with browsers like Apple’s Safari and Opera. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer surprisingly maintained browser share and hovered around 40 percent of all browsers across the globe.

Competing research firm Net Applications isn’t ready to declare Google Chrome the clear second place leader yet, but sees a similar pattern of shrinking Firefox support and growing Chrome adoption. Net Applications is predicting that Chrome will overtake Firefox by March 2012. Google’s rapid release cycle is typically credited with the rapid adoption of the browser. Using a six-week revision cycle since the launch of the browser, Google has been able to roll out speedy updates and improve the speed at which users can browse the Web. Due to growing competition, Mozilla recently ditched yearly updates to adopt a similar speedy release cycle. Google Chrome 16 recently hit beta channels last month and is expected to be released in December 2011

Regarding mobile browsers on smartphones and tablets, market share continued to fluctuate between Android and Opera Mini. BlackBerry and Symbian also each garnered three percent of the market. Safari remained at the top of the pack with 55 percent of market share due to use on the iPhone and iPad devices. Console browsing usage was still dominated by the PlayStation 3. Other console browsers included Opera, WebTV and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Convert .jpg Ke .pdf

Kita memiliki koleksi file .jpg dan ingin mengonversinya kedalam format .pdf? Di Linux ada sebuah aplikasi yang bisa kita pakai untuk melakukan hal itu.

Dengan ubuntu, saya menggunakan imagemagick untuk mengonversi file-file .jpg menjadi file .pdf. Untuk melakukan itu terlebih dulu kita install imagemagik kedalam sistem kita :

1. Install imagemagick

sudo apt-get install imagemagick

2. Conversi file .jpg menjadi .pdf dengan perintah

masuk ke direktory dimana file-file .jpg itu berada
misal :

cd /gaya23

Konversi dengan perintah :

convert *.jpg gaya23.pdf

*** gaya23 bisa diganti dengan nama lain

Udah segitu doang jo..

Cek hasil konversinya dengan perintah list :

ls

Linux Mint 12 'Lisa' to Come with a Customized Gnome 3 Desktop

Linux Mint 12 'Lisa' will come with its own customized desktop and it will be based on Gnome 3. The core desktop will be based on a series of Gnome Shell extensions called “MGSE” (Mint Gnome Shell Extensions) that will provide a layer on top of Gnome 3.

Take a look at the screenshot below:

The window list
A task-centric desktop (i.e. you switch between windows, not applications)
Visible system tray icons

MGSE also includes additional extensions such as a media player indicator, and multiple enhancements to Gnome 3. Thus Linux Mint 12 will be more like a hybrid desktop balancing traditional desktop and new modern technologies.

Also Gnome 2 fork MATE can also make it to the live Linux Mint DVD if all the remaining integration issues are ironed out in time, thus providing users a side by side experience of both Gnome 2 and Gnome 3.

In Linux Mint 11 we made the decision to keep Gnome 2.32. The traditional Gnome desktop, although it’s not actively developed by the Gnome development team anymore, is still by far the most popular desktop within the Linux community. As other distributions adopted new desktops such as Unity and Gnome 3, many users felt alienated and consequently migrated to Linux Mint. We recorded a 40% increase in a single month and we’re now quickly catching up with Ubuntu for the number #1 spot within the Linux desktop market.

As much as we’d like to keep Gnome 2.32 a little while longer we need to look forward and embrace new technologies. This doesn’t mean we need to change the way people use their desktops, not at all, it means we need to try and do our best for people to feel at home again, but on top of a brand new base, a new layer of technology, one that is actively supported upstream and that can be maintained properly going forward.

From a technological point of view, Gnome 3 is a fantastic desktop, and it’s getting better with every new release. It will take time for Linux Mint to develop a Gnome 3 desktop that is on-par with what we had with Gnome 2, but eventually we’ll be able to do much more with it than was possible with the traditional desktop.

Ubuntu telah merilis versi terakhir dari distro popular tersebut. Yap.. 13 Oktober kemaren telah resmi tersedia link unduk download iso master 11.10 tersebut.

Selain dengan mendownload master .iso ubuntu, kita juga bisa upgrade ubuntu secara online bila komputer kita terhubung dengan jaringan internet. Saya juga melakukan upgrade dari 11.04 ke 11.10 tersebut secara online.

Caranya :

Buka terminal, ketikkan update-manager.

Tunggu sesaat, ketika semua telah sempurna dimuat, maka disana akan ada pilihan upgrade

Membuka File winmail.dat Di Ubuntu

Ada temen ane yang nanyain apa sih bro file winmail.dat? Kok gak bisa dibuka yah? Wah.. wah.. wah.. masa seh? Terus apa sih winmail.dat itu?

The winmail.dat file is a container file format used by Microsoft Outlook to send attachments in richtext formatted emails.

File Winmail.dat sebenarnya adalah sebuah attachment TNEF (Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format) yang dikirim oleh aplikasi email client Microsoft Outlook ataupun Outlook Express yang digunakan oleh si pengirim email tadi, karena kekreativannya :)

Mungkin banyak orang yang tidak tahu cara ngebukanya. Mungkin juga bener yah? Tapi karena ane pakai linux, artinya tinggal install aja plikasi untuk membukanya dengan :

sudo apt-get install tnef

Tunggu saja sampai prosesnya selesai, biasanya sebentar.

Mau upgrade browser internet Firefox di Ubuntu yah? Hehe.. emang sih, di firefox Linux tidak ada opsi untuk langsung upgrade dari menu About Firefox, tapi gak usah panik. Kenapa? ya karena kita tetap bisa melakukan upgrade dan tentunya tanpa harus download fresh installer Firefox browser tersebut.

Install JDownloader Di Ubuntu

Downloader? Yap, sebuah aplikasi yang bisa membantu kita untuk bisa malakukan download file atau apalah dari internet. Ada banyak aplikasi downloader yang bisa kita pilih. Termasuk untuk platform GNU/Linux. Kali ini kita pilih jDownloader.

JDownloader adalah aplikasi open source berbasis bahasa Java, yakin temenanlah :). Aplikasi ini dikhususkan untuk mengunduh file(atau apa saja) dari situs Rapidshare. Dengan menggunakan Jdownloader ini, maka pada saat kita mendownload file dari Rapidshare, kita akan dapat me-resume ketika koneksi internet sedang bermasalah. Jadi tidak perlu takut untuk mengulang dari awal lagi... cleguk.

Installasi

Edit file /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list dan tambahkan baris berikut pada bari terakhir.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/jd-team/jdownloader/ubuntu natty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/jd-team/jdownloader/ubuntu natty main

** natty, sesuaikan dengan versi ubuntu anda ( maverick, lucid, karmic, hardy ). .

Simpan, keluar dari editor,update dan install dengan

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install jdownloader

Kalau kita berhasil menginstallnya, maka JDownloader akan ada di menu Applications - Internet - JDownloader.

Saat kita menjalankan JDownloader pertama kali akan melakukan update, ikuti saja prosesnya sampai selesai.

Kemarin kita telah membahas bagaimana caranya mengubah theme audacious dengan menggunakan theme/skin winamp classic.

Nah sepertinya akan lebih afdol kalau kita juga coba untuk bisa menggunakan audacious dengan preset equalizer seperti pada winamp. Mau? Mau? Mau?

Audacious Dengan Skin Winamp Classic

Audacious adalah salah satu media player yang cukup handal untuk meminkan file-file audio. Audacious bisa dikatakan winamp-nya linux. Karena memang memiliki banyak sekali kesamaannya. Pokoknya mirip banget dah.

Kalau belum memiliki audacious pada sistem ubuntu, kita bisa menginstallnya dengan :

sudo apt-get install audacious

Isi password root dan tunggu sampai prosesnya selesai. Saat pertama kali dijalankan, maka pasti kita akan langsung ngeh dengan winamp player. Karena emang tampilannya yang mirip banget.

Gak cuma mirip secara tampilan, ternyata kita juga bisa menggunakan skin winamp klasik di audacious ini.

Caranya?

Download skin winamp classic

Extract dengan perintah tar zxvf 64790-Winamp.tar.gz, dan copy-kan file hasil extract tadi ke /usr/share/audacious/Skins dengan perintah : sudo mv Winamp /usr/share/audacious/Skins (**Winamp adalah file hasil extract dari 64790-Winamp.tar.gz, bisa juga setelah proses extract selesai kita rename dengan nama lain, misal WinampClassic)

Jalankan audacious
Klick menunya/atau klick kanan pada playernya, Preference, Pilih Skined Interface. Disana ada beberapa skin bawaan audacious ini.

Tiada terasa Romadhan akan kita tinggalkan. Setelah satu bulan penuh kita menjalani bulan yang suci. Setelah satu bulan kita berusaha untuk bisa membersihkan diri. Membersihkan diri dari seluruh dosa dalam perjalanan waktu 1 tahun kemarin. Setelah kita berjuang keras menahan hawa nafsu serta rasa lapar dan haus.

Kini saatnya kita kembali kepada hari yang Fitri, hari dimana dosa-dosa kita diampuni oleh Allah SWT. Di hari yang fitri ini, saya secara pribadi mengucapkan "Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1432 Hijriah".

Disini juga, saya memohon maaf dari hati atas semua hal yang kemarin telah saya lakukan dan mungkin membuat diantara kita merasa tidak enak ataupun tersakiti. Semua itu karena kelemahan pribadi saya sebagai manusia.

Sharing Folder : 'net usershare' add: cannot share path xxx

Tadi sewaktu mau bikin sharing salah satu folder pada komputer saya, ternyata tidak bisa. Udah dicoba beberapa kali juga tidak bisa. Yang keluar adalah

'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot share path /path-dari-folder-yang-akan-di-sharing.

Nah seperti ini jo 'net usershare' returned error 255

Ngedadak jadi inget tentang artikel blog ini tentang failed to execute child process "testparm" (No such file or directory)

Awalnya sempat kepikiran kalau kasusnya adalah sama, tapi ternyata yang ini beda jo. Asli beda!

Setelah dibaca petunjuk yang diminta, maka saya segera mengikutinya yaitu dengan mengedit file samba.conf dengan cara :

#sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf
Masukkan : usershare owner only = false pada section [global]
Restart samba #sudo /etc/init.d/smbd restart

edit disini tambahkan "usershare owner only=false"

Ternyata setelah langkah-langkah diatas kita tempuh, abrakadabra... foldernya bisa di share jo :)

I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386 (486) AT clones. This has been brewing
since april, and is starting to get ready. I'd like any feedback on things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat (same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons)
among other things).
I've currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work.
This implies that I'll get something practical within a few months, and I'd like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions are welcome, but I won't promise I'll implement them :-)

It is NOT protable (uses 386 task switching etc), and it probably never

OpenSuse 11.4

openSUSE always concentrates on a stable foundation that is usable for different workloads. The base system of 11.4 brings better scalability and performance, an enhanced boot processes and significantly faster repository refresh, package install and update.

11.4 is based around Kernel 2.6.37 which improves the scalability of virtual memory management and separation of tasks executed by terminal users, leading to better scalability and performance and less interference between tasks. The new kernel also brings better hardware support, with open Broadcom Wireless drivers, improved Wacom support and many other new or updated drivers. It also supports the improvements to graphic drivers in the latest Xorg and Mesa shipped, so users will enjoy better 2D and 3D acceleration.

New tools for an enhanced boot process. The latest gfxboot 4.3.5 supports VirtualBox and qemu-kvm while Vixie Cron has been replaced with Cronie 1.4.6 supporting the PAM and the SELinux security frameworks. The more experimental software options include GRUB2 and systemd.

The ZYpp package management introduces a MultiCurl backend, support for zsync transfers, and Metalink download support. With simultaneous downloads from multiple servers, and fetching of only changed parts of files, the result is a significantly faster repository refresh, package install and update. The new backend gives better support for network proxies and allows for HTTP BASIC password-protected repositories. On the desktop, KPackageKit replaces the KDE applet and both KDE and GNOME applets now default to installing all package updates, not just patches.

Desktops and Applications

openSUSE is committed to flexibility and choice, providing all major desktops and a full range of applications, well integrated and supported. The desktops and applications of 11.4 take the next step with a revamped user experience, all the popular up to date Free Software applications and consistent functionality even in lighter desktops.

The KDE Plasma Desktop 4.6 introduces script-ability to window manager KWin and easier Activity management as well as improvements to network and bluetooth handling. Stable GNOME 2.32 improves usability and accessibility. 11.4 also has GNOME Shell, part of the upcoming GNOME3, available for testing. This brings a fully revamped user experience with a visual and intuitive way of launching and switching between applications, making heavy use of 3D acceleration, window tiling, integrating notifications and messaging in the shell. Xfce 4.8 now makes use of the GIO VFS implementation for better remote file system browsing as well as udev, ConsoleKit and PolicyKit. The lighter weight LXDE 0.5 hasn’t seen any major changes with this release but continues to enhance stability and usability with a series of bugfixes, improved file association and theming.

Firefox 4.0, first to ship in 11.4, introduces a major redesign of the user interface with tabs moved to the top of the toolbar, support for pinning of tabs and more. Firefox Sync synchronizes bookmarks, history, passwords and tabs between all your installations. Firefox 4 also supports newer web standards like HTML5, WebM and CSS3. 11.4 includes even more of the popular up to date Free Software applications as it’s the first major distribution to ship LibreOffice 3.3.1. Delivering it’s cleaner, faster code base and features like import and edit SVG files in Draw, support for up to 1 million rows in Calc and easier slide layout handling in Impress. 11.4 also débuts the result of almost 4 years of work with the Scribus 1.4 release based on Qt 4 and Cairo technology. Improved text rendering, undo-redo, image/color management and vector file import are highlights of this release.

openSUSE offers deep integration of all these technologies. By carefully creating ‘patterns’ of software, openSUSE ensures consistent functionality even in lighter desktops like XFCE and LXDE. Keyboard shortcuts are set, menu layouts tweaked, user-friendly file associations chosen and branding and theming integrated. 11.4 furthermore improves on the LibreOffice and Firefox integration in KDE Plasma, using native file dialogs, oxygen styling (also for GTK applications) and respecting the user’s mail client and browser choices.

Professional tools for administrators and developers

openSUSE aims to be the perfect power tool for system administrators to keep their network safe and their systems under control. And as developing and maintaining free software is the bread and butter task of the openSUSE Project the distribution naturally brings everything a software developer needs. 11.4 ships the latest virtualization and web server stacks and all the major development languages, platforms and associated IDEs.

11.4 brings the latest virtualization stack with Xen 4.0.2 introducing memory overcommit and a VMware Workstation/player driver, VirtualBox 4.0.4 supporting VMDK, VHD, and Parallels images, as well as resizing for VHD and VDI and KVM 0.14 with support for the QEMU Enhanced Disk format and the SPICE protocol. As guest, 11.4 includes open-vm-tools and virtualbox-guest-tools, and seamlessly integrates clipboard sharing, screen resizing and un-trapping your mouse.

openSUSE ships with the latest web server stack featuring Apache 2.2.17, lighttpd 1.4.26 and ngninx 0.8.54. As well as the main databases like version 9.0.3 of PostgreSQL, a release that brings major features like easy-to-use replication, a mass permission-changing facility, and anonymous code blocks. And MySQL 5.1.53 (community edition), and its fork MariaDB 5.1 that offers a drop-in replacement with better performance and some extra features are complemented while SQLite features a new transaction control mechanism using a write-ahead log.

openSUSE 11.4 comes with all the major development languages, platforms and associated IDEs. Qt 4.7.1 and QtCreator 2.1 bring a better and faster WebKit and support for the QML Declarative language, also supported in the KDE Development Platform 4.6 which in turn introduces a ‘Mobile Build Target’ for a thinner version of its libraries. The GNOME 2.32 platform brings Vala and Python support to Anjuta and Glib 2.26 supports Gsettings. 11.4 ships with GTK+ 3 bringing improved device input handling, fully Cairo based drawing (with multiple backends) and much easier theming to developers who want to develop for the upcoming GNOME 3 release. For developers who are interested in working on LibreOffice, openSUSE offers the unique advantage of using a ‘split build’, making it easy to get involved.

17 Agustus lalu, telah direlease salah satu distro linux karya anak negeri yang memiliki rasa Indonesia. Ya, BlankOn telah merelease versi 7.0 dengan kode Pattimura. Nama kode Pattimura diambil dari nama Pahlawan Nasional Indonesia, Thomas Matulessy yang juga dikenal dengan nama Pattimura.

Ubuntu secara default, menggunakan 2 channel stereo. Dimana hal ini akan menghasilkan suara untuk 2 speaker front. Apabila kita menggunakan sistem speaker 5.1 maka channel lainya akan bisu, hanya mendesis.

Tetapi kalau kita menggunakan ubuntu 11.04 maka sudah ada opsi untuk mode speaker 5.1. Nah artikel ini digunakan untuk yang belum menggunakan sistem 5.1. Cara mengaktifkannya :

1. Edit PulseAudio daemon.conf

gksu gedit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf (tekan kombinasi Alt+F2) atau
sudo gedit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf dari terminal

Cari kalimat "; default-sample-channels = 2" edit menjadi :

default-sample-channels = 6 (untuk sistem 5.1)

2.Simpan seting, dan restart komputer, atau bisa juga dengan perintah ini untuk mengetes setingan tadi
killall pulseaudio && pulseaudio

3. Panggil alsamixer dari terminal untuk melihat channel yang ada dalam status mute (00).

Disana bisa kita lihat channel yang ada meliputi :

LFE
Center
Suround
Front
PCM
Headphone
Soundcard dll

4. Test channel dengan
speaker-test -c 6

Dengarkan channel speaker secara berurutan berbunyi. Nah segitu dulu jo. Makasi udah mampir di ruang ini.

Yap Ubuntu akan merilis seri barunya 11.10 pada pertengahan Oktober nanti. Tentunya itu akan menjadi hari yang ditunggu-tunggu oleh para lover-nya untuk bisa menggunakan release tersebut. Paling tidak, mengetahui ada apa didalam release-nya nanti.

Oke, kita coba kasih sedikit info tentang Oneiric Ocelot pada saat releasenya nanti. Mungkin juga banyak diantara pengguna Ubuntu 11.04 saat ini yang sedikit kecewa dengan penggunaan unity desktop. Termasuk saya sendiri :( dengan alasan (yang mungkin subjective) yaitu, unity tidak memberikan kemudahan akses akan menu-manu seperti apa yang diberikan oleh Gnome 2. Pun demikian saat saya coba untuk menginstall Gnome 3, meski hadir dengan wajah cantiknya, tapi tidak cukup untuk meraih hati ini untuk memilih dia.. hehehe.. puitis mode=on.

Gak usah nulis panjang lebar ah, ini dia yang nanti akan hadir dengan Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot :

LightDM menggantikan GDM sebagai Default Display Manager. LightDM lebih ringan dari GDM dan menggunakan bahasa HTML, CSS serta Javascript.
Tidak ada lagi Classic Gnome Desktop
Unity 2D akan menggantikan Ubuntu Classic Desktop. Yah... unity lagi :(
Pitivi dan Computer Janitor tidak ada dalam release
Firefox 5.0 Final
Mozilla Thunderbird, menggantikan evolution
Perbaikan pada Software Center
Ada Backup Tool, Deja Dup

Kalau mau download karena penasaran dengan ubuntu 11.10 ini, bisa coba sedot file .iso yang belum released resmi sampai dengan 13 Oktober nanti, bisa ke sini .

Sebaiknya install di virtual machine atau di USB Live FD dengan unetbootin atau startup disk creator atau di burn aja di cd untuk mencobanya. Karena masih versi Alpha, maka semua masih dimungkinkan ada beberapa perubahan sampai release resmi nanti 13 Oktober 2011 [moga" gak mundur].

Uninstall Gnome 3, Kembali Ke Gnome 2

Jika kita telah menginstall Gnome 3 dan ingin kembali dengan kesederhanaan Gnome 2, coba masuk ke terminal dan ikuti langkah ini jo :)

Yang simple aja ya?

sudo apt-get remove libgtk-3-common
sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get install gnome-panel

Kemudian reboot komputer, maka biasanya [semestinya] kita akan bisa kembali ke Gnome 2 yang klasik itu. Tapi apabila kita belum bisa kembali ke kisah klasik Gnome 2, misalnya belum ada opsi untuk login dengan ubuntu clasic (gnome) maka coba juga yang ini :

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

Install Gnome 3 Di Ubuntu 11.04

Ubuntu 11.04 hadir dengan desktop unity, tapi saat ini pastinya gak jarang mendengar Gnome 3. Meski ubuntu secara default tidak menyertakan Gnome 3 pada release 11.04-nya, kita bisa juga menginstallnya di desktop ubuntu 11.04.

Tapi sebelum menginstallnya di desktop 11.04, ada baiknya kita coba dulu feel dari Gnome 3 ini dengan live cd/usb. Bisa download dari sini. Kalau cocok, boleh kita lanjutkan dengan installasi Gnome 3.

Install Gnome 3

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Install gnome-shell

Remove tema standar unity

Sony shows off its Android tablets

Sony offered the press a glimpse of its upcoming S1 and S2 tablets, which will enter an already-crowded market at an unannounced point later this year. Both run Android, but the S1 features a single 9.4-inch display, while the foldable (and pocketable) S2 features a hinge connecting a pair of 5.5-inch screens.

In a July 13 interview with CNBC , Sony Electronics president and COO Phil Molyneux explained that the S1 has an "off-center gravity point so it balances in your hand" and a "unique wraparound design." He then demonstrated both tablets, which are capable of syncing to Sony's e-reader, music and video hubs, but shied away from questions about pricing and exact release dates.

The S1 will appear in the fall timeframe, with no supporting carriers mentioned so far for that device (both tablets are 3G/4G- and WiFi-compatible). Meanwhile, Sony did say AT&T will be the exclusive carrier of athe 4G-capable S2 in the United States, once the tablet is released sometime this year.

Sony had previously hinted at the device's capabilities in a short video that was high on whimsy and low on actual product detail. In April, the company offered a preliminary glimpse of the tablets, positioning its relatively late entrance into the market as a strategic move. "If I want to differentiate [our tablet] from others, do I release it tomorrow, or do I wait until I differentiate it?" Sony CEO Howard Stringer told Reuters at the time.

Sony was apparently toying with the idea of introducing 3D to the device. "Android 3.0 is a new version of the Android platform with a new holographic user interface that is designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets," Google Senior Vice President Andy Rubin wrote in a quote shoehorned into Sony's April announcement.

According to a hands-on report from Engadget, the S1 and S2 certainly don't have 3D displays, but they do run Android 3.0 and have PlayStation gaming capabilities. The S1 is novel, however, in featuring a wedge profile designed to mimic a folded magazine, while the even-more-unusual S2 folds up and is capable of fitting into the breast pocket of a sport coat.

We additionally learned via Tweets by Technologizer editor Harry McCracken that the S1 and S2 will both feature Quick View, claimed to enable faster loading of web pages, plus software optimized for smooth scrolling. The S1 will include an infrared port so it can control TVs, McCracken adds.

In addition to the bestselling Apple iPad, the tablet market has become increasingly crowded over the past few months with Android-powered offerings from the likes of Samsung, Motorola and others. Meanwhile, rather than embrace the Android army, Research In Motion and Hewlett-Packard have released tablets running proprietary operating systems. Microsoft is planning for the next version of Windows, code-named "Windows 8," to appear in a tablet edition.

Among all those competitors, it remains to be seen whether Sony can establish a presence for itself.

GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc.

GIMP is expandable and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image manipulation procedures to be easily scripted.

GIMP is written and developed under X11 on UNIX platforms. But basically the same code also runs on MS Windows and Mac OS X.

Installing Linux (Keeping Windows)

If you have been using Windows for any length of time you will have acquired some expertise and probably built up a collection of files you don't want to lose, two reasons why you might think moving to Linux is going to be too much trouble. It isn't, trust me and read on...

Dual booting

It is really quite simple to install two operating systems on a single PC, then use a piece of software called a 'boot manager' to choose which to load when you start the computer. Microsoft's boot manager only gives you one option, to boot Windows, but most Linux distros include the 'Lilo' or more often these days 'Grub' boot manager which is quite happy to let you choose from a list of operating systems, including Windows.

Partitioning

A hard disk, or for that matter a floppy, can be divided into several sections called partitions (just like you might partition a big office to make several smaller ones). Each partition is then formatted with whatever file system you want to use, and they don't have to be the same. Generally Windows PCs only have a single partition, though some manufacturers now make a 'restore partition' where they store a backup copy of Windows and their original software bundle in case you need to re-install.

If you are going to be dual booting you will need at least 3 partitions, one for Windows (which might use FAT32 or NTFS formatting), one for the Linux OS and one for 'swap' which is used by Linux as temporary memory rather like 'virtual' memory under Windows. Linux can use various formats, ext2 is common for swap, and can be used for the main bootable partition too, though ext3 or reiserfs are more common. If all this sounds complicated, don't worry the installer supplied with your distro will take the strain. Once partitioned your disk will appear to Windows to have shrunk, Windows simply doesn't recognize the existence of file systems other than its own. Linux is more accommodating and will recognize, and make use of, a wide range of file systems.

Resizing

A few years ago most distros included a partitioning tool which would assess how much space was on your existing Windows disk, and suggest how much it would be safe to give over to Linux. If you checked 'Agree' it then re-sized the Windows partition and re-formatted the freed space for Linux. This worked very reliably with Windows 95, 98 and ME that used the FAT 32 file system, but not so well on NTFS which is normally used by Windows 2000 and XP.

Possibly because of this, or maybe because Microsoft have been grumbling about infringement of the copyright they hold on their file systems, resizing tools have disappeared from most distros, but are still available as separate applications. Whilst you are still in the proprietary software world you might like to buy Norton Partition Magic which is reckoned to be very good. Or you could take your first tentative step into the world of Open Source Software by downloading 'GParted' (Gnome Partition Editor) from Sourceforge.

Gparted is supplied as a small (30MB) .iso image file ready to burn to CD-R (or -RW) to make a bootable CD. Do that and put it to one side for a moment...

Housekeeping

Though GPArted is good, nothing in this life is certain, especially where computers are concerned, so some basic precautions are required. First, a backup of everything you would hate to lose if the partitioning goes wrong. Check that you have the necessary disks to re-install Windows and any Windows software you want to keep using too. If you have them you probably won't need them, but if Gparted fails (or you mess up and make the wrong choices) you'll be glad you've got them. Make a note of settings for Internet dialers, ADSL modem settings, POP3 accounts, SMTP accounts and passwords for everything. It's a good idea to export Internet bookmarks and your email address book too. Then defrag the disk, this makes the re-sizing and partitioning much quicker and more reliable. When you sure you've checked everything, put the Gparted CD in the drive and reboot.

Booting

Your computer may, or may not, be set to boot from the CD/DVD drive. If you're not sure, just wait, if it goes straight into Windows as normal, it isn't. So reboot again and this time watch the screen closely until you get a message from the BIOS along the lines of, 'To Enter Setup...' then do what it says – usually it is 'Hit Escape' or 'Hit Del'. Do it and in the BIOS setup set CDROM as the first boot device. Save settings and exit the BIOS Setup. This time your PC will boot from the GParted CD.

Gparted actually loads a simple version of Linux into RAM, so you will see a lot of unfamiliar messages telling you what's happening, you can ignore them until you get to the 'Select your language' screen. Choose whatever you prefer and then you move onto choosing a keyboard layout. Do that too and you'll be asked to choose the X-server type.

If you've never used Linux before this might seem weird, so a brief digression is in order. 'X' is the graphics system used by most versions of Linux. It drives your screen (via your graphics card) your keyboard and your mouse. The X-server provides services to other software such as window managers and applications. These days fully featured distros use a version of X from Xorg, but it uses a lot of resources so you could choose the simpler Xvesa instead. Next choose your preferred screen resolution and color depth (the defaults will probably be sensible). After a brief pause the Gparted screen pops up.

How to install Firefox 5.0 for Linux?

Download the released here
Extract the firefox-5.0.tar.bz2 installer and place it into the /opt ( I prefer to save my aplication into the /opt) folder with this command from the GNU/Linux (ubuntu) shell :

sudo tar xjf firefox-5.0.tar.bz2 -C /opt

Create Launcher with the target is /opt/firefox/firefox to launch the new firefox 5.0 from the Desktop

Kemarin kita sempet mengulas tentang blender yang bisa jalan diberbagai platform. Sebagai salah satu opensource 3D Content Creation yang powerfull.
Dari berbagai pilihan platform untuk menjalankan/meng-install blender, kita akan coba untuk menginstallnya di komputer dengan sistem GNU/Linux. Saya sendiri memakai ubuntu 11.04.

Proses installasi Blender di GNU/Linux termasuk ubuntu adalah sbb:

Download file installer untuk distribusi linux, saya memilih yang Linux-x86-32.
Extract file download tadi (blender-2.58-linux-glibc27-i686.tar.bz2) dengan klick kanan, pilih extract here ataupun dengan perintah tar xjf blender-2.58-linux-glibc27-i686.tar.bz2

Selain cara diatas, kita bisa juga menginstallnya dengan cara mengetikkan text command di terminal :

sudo apt-get install blender

Seting Multisite Drupal

Ehm.. saya lagi belajar Drupal ne.. hehe.. Udah lama sebenarnya penasaran dengan Drupal. Salah satu CMS atau malah F(ramework)MS karena berbagai kelebihan yang dimilikinya. Oke disini kita coba untuk setup multisite dengan menggunakan :

Core Drupal 7
Ubuntu
Apache2

Dengan setup multisite kita bisa menggunakan satu core drupal untuk menginstall kedalam multisite. Untuk setup Ubuntu dan Apache tentunya sudah gak asing lagi kan? Oke jo, langsung aja yah?

Caranya :

1. Buatsub folder multisite di folder ../sites, [ drupal7x/sites ] misal :

../sites/multisite1

../sites/multisite2

../sites/multisite3

2. Buatlah folder files, themes, modules dalam subfolder multisite tersebut.

3. Change permission supaya bisa ditulis saat installasi Drupal.

4. Copy file /sites/default/default.settings.php dan rename menjadi settings.php kedalam sub folder multisite tadi

5. Edit file /etc/hosts dengan super administrator wright, tambahkan baris berikut :

127.0.0.1 multisite1

127.0.0.1 multisite2

127.0.0.1 multisite3

6. Simpan dan restart service apache dengan perintah

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart atau

sudo service apache2 reload

7. Buat database untuk masing-masing multisite tersebut

8. Panggil di browser dengan http://multisite1/siteutama, http://multisite2/siteutama, http://multisite3/siteutama dst

9. Isikan seting dari pertanyaan yang ada untuk masing-masing multisite tersebut

CMus - Audio Player Terminal Base

Memainkan music dengan antarmuka grafis tentu sudah umum, tapi bagaimana kita memainkan music dengan menggunakan text base? Di linux, termasuk ubuntu tentu kita tahu bahwa terminal/console merupakan suatu basis perintah yang powerfull. Maka tidak ada salahnya kalau kita coba untuk memanfaatkannya termasuk dalam hal yang berhubungan dengan multimedia *music player.

Salah satu music player berbasis text yang bisa dijalankan dari terminal adalah CMus. CMus adalah sebuah aplikasi pemutar music terminal-base yang free juga powerfull dengan menggunakan nurses toolkit yang bisa di download dari ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/ncurses/ atau ftp://invisible-island.net/ncurses/.

Tunggu sampai semua proses installasi berjalan selesai.

Memainkan CMus
1. Dari terminal ketikkan perintah cmus, maka akan keluar player cmus-nya dengan antarmuka seperti editor vi.

Ketikkan *5* akan membawa kita pada file browser. Artinya kita diminta untuk browsing dimana letak file audio yang akan kita mainkan, diakhiri dengan enter.

3. Untuk keluar dari cmus ketikkan :q

Kemarin kita telah mencoba untuk membahas tentang flash di linux dengan menginstall f4l. Sekarang kita bahas lagi aplikasi flash maker di linux. Kalau kemarin kita menggunakan f4l kali ini kita akan mencoba untuk bermain dengan Qflash.

Sama seperti f4l, Qflash adalah sebuah aplikasi pembuat file flash dengan lisensi General Public License (GPL) yang juga bisa dapatkan dan menggunakannya secara legal. Qflash terasa lebih ringan saat dijalankan dan juga memiliki user interface yang simpel.

Installasi

1. Download Qflash disini kalau mau menggunakan perintah teks dengan cara

wget -c http://sourceforge.net/projects/qflash/files/qflash/0.1/qflash-0.1-bin.tar.gz/download

2. Kalau belum menginstall library libstdc++5, maka install dulu dengan perintah

sudo apt-get install libstdc++5

3. Ekstract file qflash-0.1-bin.tar.gz dengan perintah

4. Masuk ke direktori qflash hasil ekstract tadi

cd qflash-0.1-bin

f4l adalah sebuah aplikasi flash maker di linux sebagai alternatif dari versi professional & berbayar seperti macromedia / adobe flash. Sebenarnya f4l ini merupakan aplikasi yang sudah lama ada, dari menu About di aplikasi ini, dapat kita lihat bahwa f4l yang saya pakai ini di ciptakan pada 2003.

F4l - Flash (maker) For Linux

Oke, kalau ada yang ingin menginstall-nya di komputer dengan platform Ubuntu, salah satunya bisa mengikuti cara ini.

1. Download file f4lm_0.1-1_i386.deb

2. Sebelum mengeksekusi file f4lm_0.1-1_i386.deb, kita install dulu library libstdc++5 dengan perintah :

sudo apt-get install libstdc++5

3. Install file .deb tadi dengan perintah

sudo dpkg -i f4lm_0.1-1_i386.deb

Tunggu sampai semua prosesnya yang tidak lama itu selesai. Setelah selesai kita bisa mengeksekusi f4l tersebut dengan mengetikkan perintah f4lm di terminal.

The Google Nexus 4G to have 720p display, dual-core processor, and 4G LTE

The Google Nexus line of devices are well known for being powerful, popular Android phones. They’re designed by engineers at Google and are usually the first handsets to get Android updates and new features. Now, the analysts at BoyGeniusReport have their hands on the specs for what may be the next phone in the Nexus family: the Google Nexus 4G. If their information is right, the Nexus 4G will be a monster device, with a 720p display, 4G LTE radio, and it’ll run Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich.”

According to BGR, the Nexus 4G will feature a dual-core 1.2Ghz or 1.5Ghz dual-core processor under the hood. They also claim that Google has ditched Nvidia and its next generation Kal-El processor platform for either a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 or a new, super-low-power Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. If that’s the case, it could mean trouble for Nvidia. Nvidia was all too happy to showcase smartphone manufacturers committed to Kal-El at CES earlier this year. Unfortunately few of those devices have made it to market.

Processor aside, the report also notes that the Nexus 4G will sport a 4G LTE radio, and they think the phone will arrive on AT&T. It’s just as possible that the LTE radio means the phone will appear at Verizon Wireless, but it’s clearly one of the two. If the Nexus 4G does launch on AT&T, it’ll be one of that network’s first major 4G smartphones.

Regardless of the carrier, the Nexus 4G will definitely be the first phone on the market with Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” installed, and that new OS will run with 1GB of RAM and a huge 720p HD display. The Nexus 4G will also reportedly feature a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 1-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls, and will be capable of 1080p video capture and playback. The Nexus 4G will also forgo physical buttons at the bottom of the device in favor of on-screen software controls, so say goodbye to the menu, back, home, and search buttons on the bottom of so many Android phones.

Apparently the Nexus 4G will be available in November And while no details were confirmed, this is enough to get us excited for what the fall may bring.

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on a new Google Chromebook ever since they were unveiled at Google I/O, you’re in luck. You can now order the Samsung Series 5 3G Chromebook or the Acer Cromia Chromebook in both 3G and Wi-Fi flavors at Amazon.com or Best Buy in the US, and exclusively online from Amazon and other online retailers in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Both Chromebook models feature Google’s Chrome OS built-in and ready to go. They’re designed to be portable, always-connected workstations, and if you don’t have a connection to the Internet, you’ll find some applications and features are unavailable. Chromebooks aren’t exactly powerhouse systems, which we saw when iFixit took apart a Samsung Series 5 earlier this month. They pack Intel Atom processor, a bit of RAM, and a few gigabytes of storage, sufficient display sizes and external ports to get the job done.

They don’t need a lot of horsepower under the hood because all of your data and applications live on the Web–your Chromebook is simply your gateway to that information. Lenovo Android tablets go worldwide in July, Windows model due this year

Lenovo — though still a fairly new name in the North American computing market — is preparing to make a tablet-powered splash in the U.S. this summer. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the company will be launching two Android tablets in the coming months and a Windows model will follow later on in 2011.

Android devices aren’t a totally new venture for Lenovo. The company released its first device, the Miro 01, in 2009 and followed up with the slick, transformable LePhone in 2010. Back in March of 2011, Lenovo finally launched the LePad — its first Android tablet — in China. The LePad debuted with a 1.3Ghz processor running Android 2.2 and is available in Wi-Fi and 3G configs sporting 16 or 32GB of internal storage.

According to Lenovo’s COO Rory Read, two new 10-inch tablets running Android 3.X Honeycomb will begin shipping worldwide starting in July, with a consumer IdeaPad arriving first and a ThinkPad aimed at enterprise use following shortly thereafter. Later this year, the Android tables will be followed up by a Windows version — which will ship with Windows 7, in all likelihood. Unfortunately, Read didn’t mention any specifics about the hardware, though it’s safe to assume they’ll be comparable to existing Android Honeycomb tablets from Motorola, Acer, Asus, and LG.

Read states that Lenovo had been biding its time, reaching into the cliche bag to say that the company would only get one chance to make a good first impression. The company had, of course, create plenty of buzz around the tablets it teased at CES in both 2010 and 2011. Now that they’re finally slated to arrive on American shores, it’ll be interesting to see how they’re received by a relatively unfamiliar consumer base.

Ada yang nanya cara untuk mengeksekusi file .bin. Setelah mendownloadnya dari internet, ternyata file tersebut berekstensi .bin bukannya .deb yang bisa langsung dieksekusi? Untuk bisa menginstall file .bin caranya adalah sebagai berikut :

1. Buka terminal, menuju ke lokasi dimana file .bin tersebut berada dengan perintah cd nama folder.

2. Rubah atribut file tersebut untuk bisa dieksekusi, chmod +x file.bin

Misal:
chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin

3. Eksekusi dengan perintah ./file.bin

Misal :
./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

Maka setelah menekan tombol "Enter" proses installasinya akan berjalan.

The Google Chrome developers at Google proudly announced last evening (June 7th) the stable release and immediate availability for download of the Google Chrome 12 web browser for Linux, Windows, Macintosh and Chrome Frame platforms.

The new Google Chrome 12 web browser includes various interesting new features, such as the highly anticipated hardware accelerated 3D CSS support and a brand-new Safe Browsing mode.

"In addition, we would like to thank David Levin of the Chromium development community, miaubiz, Christian Holler and Martin Barbella for working with us in the development cycle and preventing bugs from ever reaching the stable channel. Various rewards were issued." - was stated in the official blog announcement.

Highlights of Google Chrome 12.0.742.91:

· Hardware accelerated 3D CSS;
· New Safe Browsing mode to protect users against downloading viruses;
· Flash cookies can now be deleted from inside Chrome;
· Apps can be launched by name from the Omnibox;
· Sync was integrated into the new settings pages;
· Support for screen reader was improved;

Posting kali ini sebenarnya untuk menjawab pertanyaan kawan saya. Kemaren dia sempet nanya

"jo.. kenapa yah waktu gw mo install d4x di ubuntu 10.10 kok ga bisa?.... dan bla.. bla.. bla..". :)

Memang untuk Ubuntu 10.10 sepertinya tidak disertakan repository dari d4x tersebut sehingga untuk menginstall d4x tidak bisa dengan perintah sudo apt-get install d4x seperti pada postingan terdahulu blog ini tentang install d4x juga.

Untuk menginstall d4x di ubuntu 10.10 atau yang lebih baru kita bisa dengan cara mendownload file-file ini :

d4x-commond
libao2 pilihlah dari mirror terdekat, meski size filenya kecil tapi saya percaya akan bisa lebih cepat untuk didownload. :)

Setelah kedua file tersebut selesai di download, maka kita bisa menginstallnya dengan :

Buka terminal.
Masuk ke folder dimana file download tadi berada, misal di /home/joherujo/Download/d4x maka ketikkan cd /home/joherujo/Download/d4x
sudo dpkg -i *.deb jangan lupa isi password yang diminta :)
Tunggu prosesnya selesai, maka kita akan bisa menjalankan d4x dari menu Application - Internet - Downloader for X

Installasi :

2. Ekstract file ehcp_latest.tgz tadi

tar -zxvf ehcp_latest.tgz

3. Masuk ke folder ehcp

cd ehcp

./install.sh

Ikuti seluruh proses installasi, isikan seluruh pertanyaan selama proses installasi tersebut yang berhubungan dengan setingan untuk ehcp.

Apabila selama proses installasi tersebut terdapat sejumlah pesan error, maka ketika installasi terhenti, ketikkan perintah

sudo apt-get -f install

untuk memperbaikinya. Setelah selesai kita bisa mencoba masuk ke panel ehcp di web browser. http://ip-server-kita/ehcp

Gunakan :

username : admin
password : password yang kita isikan saat proses installasi tadi

The AMD Z-series chips - The way for AMD Enter Tablet Market

The AMD Z-series chips, based on the Fusion architecture, will bring a full PC client experience to tablets, according to a company exec.

Advanced Micro Devices on Wednesday broke its silence around its tablet strategy, announcing its first low-power chip designed for these devices.

The Z-series chips, which is based on the Fusion architecture, will deliver a full PC client experience in tablets, said Chris Cloran, vice president and general manager of the computing solutions group, client division at AMD, at a press conference at the Computex trade show in Taipei.

AMD has been criticized for not moving quickly enough to deliver chips for the booming tablet market, at one point fueling speculation that it might license chip technology from ARM for this market. With the Z-series chips, AMD will compete with ARM, whose processors go into most tablets, and Intel, whose Atom processor code-named Oak Trail is being shown in many tablets at Computex.

The first chip in the Z-series family, the dual-core Z-01, runs at a clock speed of 1GHz. It draws less than six watts of power, and will deliver a long battery life to tablets, Cloran said. The chip is made using the 40-nanometer process and has already started shipping.

The chip includes a graphics core that supports Microsoft's DirectX 11 technology, which will help deliver a more realistic gaming experience on tablets, Cloran said. The tablets will also be able to connect to high-definition television sets.

MSI at Computex is demonstrating a new tablet based on AMD's latest tablet chip. The WindPad 110W runs Windows 7, and packs 2GB of RAM and SSD (solid-state drive) storage of up to 64GB. It weighs 850 grams and offers six hours of battery life.

The Z-series chips are designed specifically for Microsoft's Windows 7 OS. Google's Android will be able to run on top of the Windows 7 software stack, Cloran said. An Acer tablet running AMD's Z-series chip was demonstrated onstage, and was able to switch seamlessly between Windows 7 and Android.

The ability to run Android will make more applications available for AMD tablets, Cloran said. Most of the tablets targeted at consumers today run on Android operating systems, while Windows 7 tablets, such as Hewlett-Packard's Slate 500, are targeted at businesses.

Support for Android also gives tablet designers more flexibility to bundle both operating systems in one tablet, Cloran said.

AMD is scheduled to launch next year processors, code-named Wichita and Krishna, for low-power devices such as tablets. The chips will be made using the 28-nanometer process, and will have up to four processor cores.

AMD officials at the press conference also said that the company's latest A-series chips, code-named Llano, for laptops and desktops will be officially announced later this month. The chips are to be released under the A4, A6 and A8 monikers. The A-series chips bring 400 gigaflops of computing power to laptops and 500 gigaflops to desktops, Cloran said.

Install Webmin - Ubuntu 11.04

Webmin adalah suatu sistem administrasi web base untuk sistem Linux/Unix, dimana untuk menjalankannya dengan menggunakan web browser. Dengan webmin kita bisa menambahkan akun user, setup apache, DNS, sharing file dsb.

Proses installasi

1.Sebelum menginstall webmin, terlebih dulu kita install dependency-nya

sudo apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl

Kemudian kita install paket libmd5-perl, caranya :

download filenya :

wget http://ftp.debian.org/pool/main/libm/libmd5-perl/libmd5-perl_2.03-1_all.deb

Install

sudo dpkg -i libmd5-perl_2.03-1_all.deb

2.Download webmin

wget -c http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin_1.550_all.deb

Install

sudo dpkg -i webmin_1.550_all.deb

Tunggu sampai prosesnya selesai. Bila dalam prosesnya terdapat pesan error maka ketikkan perintah berikut :

sudo apt-get -f install

Dari semua proses tersebut maka webmin telah terinstall, tapi apabila kita tidak bisa login dengan akun root, maka coba dengan perintah berikut untuk bisa login ke panel :

sudo passwd root

Oke, untuk mencoba hasil dari yang telah kita lakukan tadi, maka bukalah webmin dari address bar web browser, https://namaserver:10000 atau https://ip-server:10000

TweetDeck adalah sebuah aplikasi untuk ngetweet dari desktop kita. Bahkan ketika kita mendaftarkan account ke TweetDeck, maka kita akan mendapatkan feature-feature berikut : ~ ah lihat aja pas udah install TweetDeck :)

Download dulu :

Adobe Air. Untuk ubuntu saya pilih dari sini untuk distro lainnya bisa dari sini
TweetDeckAir

Setelah di download, maka kita bisa menuju lokasi download tadi dan install Adobe air dengan perintah berikut :

sudo dpkg -i adobeair.deb

Jadikan TweetDeck_0_37.5.air tadi executable dengan perintah

chmod +x TweetDeck_0_37.5.air

Double Klick TweetDeck_0_37.5.air , ikuti prosedur installasinya. Pilih Install, dan Agree pada License Agreement.

Install

Kalau diminta mengisi password, maka isikan password root kita dan tunggu sampai prosesnya selesai.

Atau bisa juga kita mulai dari sini pilih Installing TweetDeck

Biasanya setelah selesai installasi, Tweetdeck akan langsung runing, untuk menjalankan berikutnya bisa dari menu Applications - Accessories - TweetDeck

Meremove Lamp ( Linux, Apache, Mysql, Php )

Dulu kita pernah menginstall Lamp linux, nah disini adalah cara untuk meng-uninstall Lamp di ubuntu. Sebelum melakukannya, sebaiknya kita backup database kita terlebih dulu. Langkah untuk meremove Lamp adalah sebagai berikut :

1. Remove phpmyadmin

sudo apt-get purge libapache2-mod-auth-mysql phpmyadmin

*Kalau ada pertanyaan jawab Oke aja atau Yes ;)

2. Remove mysql

sudo apt-get purge mysql-server mysql-server-5.1 mysql-server-core-5.1

3. Remove apache

sudo apt-get purge apache2 apache2-mpm-prefork apache2-utils apache2.2-bin apache2.2-common libapache2-mod-php5

sudo apt-get autoremove

4. Cek localhostnya, misal

http://localhost/phpmyadmin

Install untuk ubuntu ( saya gunakan yang i386 ) :

Masuk ke terminal dan ketikkan

sudo dpkg -i picasa_3.0-current_i386.deb

atau double click saja file picasa_3.0-current_i386.deb yang tadi kita download, maka ubuntu akan secara otomatis menginstallnya.

Ubuntu 11.04 Dengan Gnome Desktop

Secara default ubuntu 11.04 menggunakan Unity Desktop. Meski menawarkan tampilan yang lebih menarik tapi bagi beberapa user yang terbiasa menggunakan Gnome Desktop, hal ini akan memberikan sedikit kebingungan.

Saya sendiri mengalami hal itu, hingga berfikir lagi untuk kembali menggunakan Gnome Desktop. Dalam release 11.04 ini apabila kita ingin kembali menggunakan Gnome Desktop tidaklah memerlukan langkah yang sulit. Hal ini dimungkinkan dengan adanya opsi pada login screen ubuntu.

Sama halnya kalau kita menginstall beberapa Desktop environment pada ubuntu kita, disana akan ada pilihan bagi kita untuk menggunakan desktop yang mana. Jadi cara untuk beralih ke Gnome Desktop pada ubuntu 11.04 Natty adalah sebagai berikut :

Log Out.. apabila kita udah login ke Unity Desktop
Pilih user kita dan masukkan password seperti biasa
Pada pilihan desktop envi-nya kita pilih ke "Ubuntu Clasic"

Developers have released Marble 1.1, which implements a model of the earth and provides a world atlas linked to various additional sources of information such as Wikipedia. It is in some ways similar to Google Earth, but is more targeted towards educational applications.

You can choose from a variety of map styles, such as topographic layout, satellite view, or street map. Temperature and precipitation annotations can be added as well.
The release includes several new features that were developed as part of the Google Code-in event. One of the new functions is a map creation wizard that simplifies the process of creating additional map schemes. For example, if you wanted to create a map that displays the distribution of ground water across the globe you could use this tool to create the required files and distribute them other users.
Marble 1.1 was released on April 15th, 2011. This release is special: With many new features being developed during Google Code-in (GCI) we decided to make an early release between the usual ones synchronized with the other KDE applications. Toshiba announces 1mm-thick 7-inch LCD touchscreen

The Toshiba Mobile Display division has come up with an integrated touch panel that’s only as thick as a dime. The company has developed a 7-inch LCD panel that’s just 1mm thick.

The low temperature poly-silicone (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) is less than half as thick as a conventional LCD touchscreen. Toshiba said the technology, compared to conventional LCDs that require an extra touch panel layer to be applied, provides a better picture, and is 57 percent less thick, 48 percent lighter at 225 grams, and has a 10 percent less surface reflection ratio.

This is good news for manufacturers since they won’t have to go through the process of adding a touch panel to the LCD. Toshiba is marketing this as a technology to use for vehicle mounts, and for industrial applications.

Toshiba said its smaller size “enables the design of more compact products for mobile applications.” It also reduces the impact on the environment by saving resources and power.

The LCD can be seen first at the SID 2011 International Symposium, Seminar, and Exhibition taking place in Los Angeles next month. If it lives up to the hype we don’t expect this display just to be used in vehicles or industrial settings. Thinner screens are desirable for both smartphone and tablet devices, and a 7-inch screen makes it perfect for tablets.

di terminal ketikkan perintah berikut :

Dengan sudo, artinya kita diminta untuk mengisi password root, maka isikan saja passwordnya dan tunggu hingga tiap prosesnya berjalan.

GnomeBaker Burning Tool adalah sebuah aplikasi burner geratis dan opensource yang ada di linux. Seperti namanya, GnomeBaker Burning Tool merupakan aplikasi burner CD/DVD yang berbasis desktop gnome.

Pastinya kita juga bisa menginstall di ubuntu atau meluncur ke website dan download installernya.

Lite System Monitor - Conky

Kita tentu pernah menggunakan System Monitor standar bawaan ubuntu, tapi sebenarnya banyak aplikasi lain yang bisa kita gunakan sebagai sistem monitor pada ubuntu kita.

Disini kita akan coba untuk menginstall dan menggunakan conky. Sebuah aplikasi mini yang mampu memonitor system, cpu temperatur, informasi bateray, koneksi wifi, informasi RAM dan sebagainya langsung tampil di wallpaper desktop.

conky - System Monitor

Salah satu hal yang baik adalah resources yang digunakannya minimal, sehingga tidak terlalu membebabi resources system.

Cara installnya, dari terminal ketikkan :

sudo apt-get install conky

atau gunakan link ini untuk menginstallnya langsung.

Kita bisa melakukan konfigurasi manual conky dengan mengedit file ~/.conkyrc. Misal ketikkan gedit ~/.conkyrc. Hal itu akan membuat sebuah file .conkyrc di home direktory kita. Kemudian copy paste kan kode beikut kedalam editor file .conkyrc. Kemudian simpan dan keluar.

* Tambahkan opsi eksecutable file hasil download tadi

chmod +x ./unetbootin-linux-527 atau

* Properties | Permissions checklist "Allow executing file as program"

* Double Klick unetbootin tersebut untuk menjalankannya, isikan password root. Atur distribusi/.iso yang akan kita install, juga target media untuk installasinya.

* Klick OK dan tunggu sampai prosesnya selesai.

Xfce 4.8 released on January 2011

After almost two years of work, xfce development team announcing the much awaited release of Xfce 4.8, the new stable version that supersedes Xfce 4.6.

Everyone will enjoy this release as much as we do. Sadly, this will not be the case as the folks using any of the BSD systems will notice a sudden loss of features. We think that this announcement is a good opportunity to express our disagreement with the recent "Linux-only" developments in the open source ecosystem, especially with regards to the utilities we need in desktop environments.

Xfce 4.8 is our attempt to update the Xfce code base to all the new desktop frameworks that were introduced in the past few years. We hope that our efforts to drop pieces like ThunarVFS and HAL with GIO, udev, ConsoleKit and PolicyKit will help bringing the Xfce desktop to modern distributions.

With Xfce 4.8 our users will be able to browse remote shares using a variety of protocols (SFTP, SMB, FTP and many more). The window clutter has been reduced by merging all file progress dialogs into a single one.

Our panel application has been rewritten, thereby improving positioning, transparency, item and launcher management. It also introduces a new menu plugin to view directories. Its plugin framework remains compatible with 4.6 plugins.

We also improved our settings dialogs. The display configuration dialog now supports RandR 1.2, detects screens automatically and allows our users to pick their favorite resolution, refresh rate, rotation. Screens can be configured to either work in clone mode or be placed next to each other. Keyboard selection has become easier and more user-friendly. Also, the manual settings editor has been updated to be more functional.

Aside from the features implemented in Xfce, the 4.8 development cycle brought us a bunch of other goodies. For the first time we had a serious release strategy formed after the "Xfce Release and Development Model" developed at the Ubuntu Desktop Summit in May 2009. A new web application made release management a lot easier. We worked hard on improving the situation of Xfce translators which led us to setting up our own Transifex server. Something else you will hopefully notice is that our server and mirroring infrastructure has been improved so that our servers hopefully will not suddenly surrender shortly after this release announcement.

Install Linux DI Flashdisk Dengan Unetbootin Linux

Kalau dulu pernah kita bahas cara install linux di flash disk dengan unetbootin windows, ataupun bikin startup Live USB Ubuntu dengan Startup Disk Creator, sekarang saatnya kita tahu cara install linux di flashdisk dengan unetbootin. Karena sebenarnya unetbootin ini juga ada versi Linux juga Mac OS X.

Unetbootin adalah suatu program yang memungkinkan kita untuk membuat bootable Live USB tanpa perlu burning CD. UNetbootin ada dalam versi windows, linux dan Mac OS X.

Install dengan PPA

1. Edit /etc/apt/sources.list dan tambahkan :

Menjalankan unetbootin

Klick menu Application | System Tools | UNetbootin biasanya akan diminta nulis password root.

Install linux Di Flasdisk

unetbootin linux

Jalankan unetbootin, dan atur :

Distribution : Pilih distribusi linux yang akan di install, pilih versinya juga. ( Tidak akan aktif kalau kita memilih diskimage)
Diskimage :ISO dan browse dimana file .iso ( tidak aktif kalau kita pilih Distribution )
Type : USB
Drive : /dev/sdd1 (adalah drive FD saya, mungkin beda dengan komputer anda. Untuk mengetahuinya bisa dilihat dari System | Administration | Disk Utility
OK.

Tunggu prosesnya selesai

Restart komputer, atur bios / pilih startup dari USB Flashdisk.

GNOME 3.0 Rescheduled for September 2011 Release

April 1, 2011 — BANGALORE, India — The GNOME Release Team met in India this week to discuss the state of GNOME 3. The Release Team came to a consensus opinion that one more cycle will be required before GNOME 3.0 is ready to be released. The decision was communicated to and approved by the GNOME Foundation Board on a conference call.

The delay of the release comes for a number of reasons. The primary indicator of the unreadiness of the release is the massive number of exceptions that have been requested and granted during the hard code freeze period. There have been several last-minute API changes that have the potential to harm the stability of the release.

The recent announcement that the Mozilla project would discontinue support for embedding has cast doubts on the technical underpinnings of the new GNOME shell. There are also concerns about the frequently shifting visual design and questions about its performance and portability. The release team is also concerned about the possible near-future release of GTK4 and what that means for GNOME as a development platform.

Foremost, the GNOME project is committed to only releasing the highest quality software. Dozens of release-critical blocker bugs remain open with little chance of being fixed by the time of the release.

At this time, there will be no new release in the 2.x series and all developer effort will focus on improvements to GNOME 3.0. The release is being delayed for a full 6 months to avoid scheduling problems for our downstream distributors. During this 6 month period, we will reopen module proposals in the usual way. We are particularly encouraging module proposals from alternate desktop shells, which will be given careful consideration.

The Release Team would like to thank the developers who continue to put tremendous amounts of work into the GNOME project. The level of the quality of the code is at the highest that it has ever been and there is no doubt that we will easily have the best desktop on the planet by September 2011.

Cara Mengetahui Hardware Komputer

Ada beberapa teman yang suka menanyakan pada saya. "Gimana sih cara kita mengetahui hardware yang ada pada komputer dengan sistem ubuntu?" Ada juga yang nulis di kolom komentar tentang hal yang mirip itu. Disini misalnya. Nah gak ada salahnya kita coba untuk mencari solusinya. Betul? hehee..

1. Install Hardware Info - hwinfo

Diterminal ketikkan :

sudo apt-get install hwinfo

Cara menjalankan program tersebut, cukup kita ketikkan :

hwinfo. Atau hwinfo --help untuk mengetahui detil penggunaannya

Eksekusi hwinfo

Dengan hwinfo kita juga bisa mengetahui port mana yang digunakan oleh hardware kita jo.. :)

2. Install gnome-device-manager

gnome-device-manager adalah salah satu aplikasi berbasis grafis yang berguna untuk mengetahui hardware dari komputer kita. Untuk menginstallnya ada dua cara. Kita bisa dengan

* Text Command

sudo apt-get install gnome-device-manager

* Synaptic

Buka System | Administration | Synaptic Package Manager

Dengan mengetikkan key gnome-device-manager Klick Apply.

Untuk menjalankannya Application | System Tools | Device Manager
